We’re glad you found us and welcome to the Country Roads Knife Company.

We’re glad you found us and welcome to the Country Roads Knife Company.  We’re a family owned and operated company located in the great state of West Virginia.

Each of our Collector and Outdoor series knives are built one at a time.  Because we are conscious to our environment, we purchase Green Energy for our knife building and try to work with vendors that also implement good environmental practices.  It’s sometimes challenging to find good vendors that practice the same however their products usually comes with higher quality and our customers don’t mind a couple extra bucks when it comes to good environmental manufacturing.

When you are born and raised in West Virginia the rumor mill has it that you are provided with and extra gene that makes you think about nonpaid weekend holidays for hunting, fishing, and camping. Then during the weekdays, if you throw in to the mix a few CNC machines along with few more evening beers don’t you know, it’s just a matter of time before someone starts making a jig to turn down a knife blade.

The next thing you know, a couple decades have gone by the wayside and then one evening while enjoying a few more of those beers and hanging a few deer someone says, “why didn’t we ever think about selling these knifes”. The rest is history and a couple of us still blame that comment on the beer.

Starting our knife company wasn’t as difficult as getting through that whole family competition thing and trying to assign “Business Titles” or “Associate of the Month” parking spot.  Then Great God Almighty, should you have a square meeting table with one end that could be considered the director’s seat. Thus, we eliminate any parking lines assigned one title called “Family Associate” and purchased a round table.

We only build fix blade Full Tangs and Rat Tail Tangs Hunting, Fishing and Camping Knives. We build our blades out of high carbon 1095 High Carbon, Stainless, D2/D3 Tool Steel and multi-Layer Damacus and at lengths of 6 to 13 inches.  We also register our knives in house with a serial number and a name associated with the Wild and Wonderful State of West Virginia.  A considerable amount of time, effort and dedication goes into building your knife that we shipped with the following features:

  • Elegant Magnetic Gift box

  • Knife with Name, and Serial Number engraved

  • Sheath (Hand Crafted Leather)

  • Wiping Oil (FDA Approved)

Our knifes or separated into two groups know as Collector Series and Outdoor Series however there is very little that separates the two of them. We focus on building knifes that you hand down from generation to generation and use along the way. Any knife that leaves our facility is built with the same quality and craftsmanship and undergo the same inspections and certification process.

If the truth be known, the primary difference between these two Series is that our collector series were the first and original designs we developed. The Collector Series had 6 initial designs that were built in the late 90’s through the early 2000’s.  Our latest and biggest engineered changes were brought about around 2014-2019 when we switched them over to Damacus Steel for a higher HRC between 58-62.  Our latest decision came about when we limited all collector knives to a production of 1,200 each and we’ll let the next Generation develop their collector designs.

Our Collector can only be ordered with either a handmade Cherry or Black Walnut that came off our property.  Jim developed a multi wood laminate handle that has both our cherry and walnut which is absolutely unique and beautiful.  This handle is more labor intensive and is a special order that comes with an additional cost. With a laminate handle you can order the outside wood you want on the knife handle.  No two of our knife handles are the same simply because they are a freehanded build.

The One thing we can all agree on is a that any knife collector or otherwise isn’t worth a damn if they just sets in a display case for someone to look at.  Therefore, all of our knifes are built to strap on your side and take off for the mountains and while you are out there, skin that buck, filet your buddy’s fish, cut some kindling for the campfire.  Then you get back home dress it a little, wipe it down and put it back in the gift box till the next time.

Our 6 collector series knives are branded after attractions throughout the State of West Virginia and our 20 outdoor series knives are named after cities throughout West Virginia.  We also have a 3rd line of knives that are sold on our Cocktails & Prototype page that just didn’t make the cut however are still a very good knife.  You can read the real story of Cocktails and Prototype Page if you’re curious.

Each of Country Road Knifes brands are built in house using one at a time and you also must be 18 to purchase our knives. We only sell our Knifes out of our store front (by appointment only), internet, social media and trade shows.  If you want to learn more about our trade show dates and locations, please look at our Schedule Page.
