Description

Appalachian Collector Series Damascus Knife

Our Appalachian Collector Knife has a production limit of 1,200 each and is made of Damascus Steel that contains a mixture of 1095 High Carbon and 15N20 Nickel Carbon. Besides being a very balanced knife, what other single name can describe West Virginia other than Appalachian. This collector knife design was one of our first and early designs crafted from carbon steel when we really didn’t know about Damascus.

Damascus Steel Construction

You can purchase any one of our Collector Knives with a partial polish blade giving it that Two Tone design or you can choose to purchase them in a full Damascus design.  The pros to having a partial polish blade enables you to easily see your Collector knife’s name and serial number at the front of the handle. You can also purchase any of our collector series knife with a Walnut and Cherry laminated handle for a little extra money or just a full Walnut or Cherry handle at no extra cost.

Craftsmanship & Heritage

The Appalachian metals are heated together between 22000 F – 23000F and the steel bar is folded over and over.  This folding process is called Layering as in Layered Damascus Steel.  Your Appalachian Collector Knife has been folded approximately 385 times or 385 Layers

Following the Layering the blade then burns in acid, and it turns the nickel satin color and the high carbon into a blackish gray color. Only after you burn the sides of the blade with acid do you see the layers of the two steels. This process exposes the layers of the new steel that is known as  “Damascus”.

After your blade is shaped we highly polish the handles and put an edge on the blade. The high polishing buffs off the acid burned layer of the handle, and when sharpened the acid burned edge becomes satin color.

Your Appalachian Blade is the result of the saw-blade effect when examined at the microscopic level thus keeping its edge while other blades have dulled. Your Appalachian Knife has been given and excellent heat treatment that results in an ASTM Rockwell hardness test between 55-58 HRC along the blade edge.

This collector knife makes for the ultimate gift for any occasion that can be enjoyed and handed off to future generations.
