The Alaskan Parkersburg
The Parkersburg is a full tang skinner, 8.5 inches overall with a 4 and 1/4 inch blade and a matching 4 and 1/4 inch handle. Perfectly even front to back. The skinner belly is built for long sweeping cuts, which is exactly what you want when you are working hide.
The blade is straight carbon steel, 0.95 to 1.0 percent carbon with 0.30 to 0.50 percent manganese. No chromium, no gimmicks. Carbon steel sharpens faster in the field than anything else on this list and it comes back screaming sharp with a few passes on a stone. Hardness is 54 to 56 HRC.
Carbon steel will patina. That is not a defect, it is the steel telling you where it has been. Keep it oiled and it will outlive you. Walnut handle, hand finished.
